The Northern Indiana Weather Forecast
Office (WFO) recently held their 4th annual
golf outing supporting Emergency Preparedness Month. A
record 35 golfers participated in this growing event.
Participants included NWS employees representing 5
offices, emergency managers, law enforcement officials and
the general public. The WFO Northern Indiana Public
Outreach Support Team (POST) organized and promoted the
event. Proceeds collected from entry fees totaled $426 and
were donated to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief
Fund on behalf of the golfers who participated. The
winning team was led by Grant County Indiana Emergency
Manager, Bruce Bender. In addition to raising money for disaster relief, safety preparedness signs were placed around the golf course for golfers to view while playing. Safety preparedness and weather brochures were also made available in the course clubhouse for anyone to pickup. This unique event brings together people from the NWS with many of our customers in a unique, learning atmosphere. WFO Northern Indiana plans to continue hosting this growing event each September in conjunction with National Preparedness Month. Anyone within the NWS is welcome to attend and bring guests.
